About ToMIDI

How ToMIDI turns audio into MIDI, how we handle your files and how to reach us.

Last updated: 2026-11-02

What we build

ToMIDI turns recordings into MIDI on the web. Drop a song, a voice memo or a video into the audio to MIDI converter and it writes the notes into a MIDI file you can edit, play with any instrument or print as sheet music. Around it sit tools for MIDI files, such as the MIDI editor and MIDI to sheet music; for scores and tabs, such as the guitar tab generator and the sheet music scanner; and for practice, such as the key finder, the BPM finder and the online tuner. Fast conversion and the browser tools are free; HQ transcription, stem separation, full guitar tabs, score scanning and YouTube links use credits from a plan or a credit pack (see pricing).

How we work

  • Free tools run on your device. Fast audio to MIDI conversion, the MIDI tools, the key, BPM and chord tools, the tuner, the metronome, the transposer, the key and BPM changers and tab previews all work in your browser, and your file is not uploaded. You need an account for exports past the free limits and for the paid features.
  • Your files stay with you. HQ transcription, stems and guitar tabs send your file to Kie.ai, and score scans go to Flat; the upload is deleted after processing. We don't sell your files, and we don't use them to train AI models.
  • Files you can use. Audio to MIDI exports MIDI, quantized or as played, and sheet music as PDF, PNG and SVG, plus MusicXML with credits. Tab tools export PDF, TXT, MusicXML and MIDI, and the audio tools save WAV or MP3.
  • Failed jobs cost nothing. Credits are held while a paid job runs. If the job fails, they come back to your balance automatically.
  • Limits and prices you can see. Without an account, Fast exports the first 60 seconds as MIDI and the first 2 pages of sheet music as a watermarked PDF; a free account gets 3 full-length exports a day, and credits remove the cap and unlock clean PDFs and MusicXML. Every paid feature lists its credit cost on the pricing page.

Who it is for

Musicians, producers, songwriters, students and teachers who want the notes of a recording as MIDI, sheet music or tabs, to learn a part, arrange it in a DAW or print it, without installing software.

Results you can check

Automatic transcription gets a lot right, but not everything. Fast works best on one voice or one instrument: solo piano is good but chords need checking, a full band mix is rough, and drums come out as random notes. Before you download, play the MIDI against the original with the mix slider or the original/MIDI switch, then fix wrong notes in the piano roll or the MIDI editor. We don't publish accuracy percentages until we have measured them.
