Creators with their own channel
Lost the project file but the performance is still on your channel? Run your own upload through YouTube to MIDI and rebuild the part in your DAW.
To convert YouTube to MIDI, paste the link to one video, choose the part of the song you want on its waveform, and ToMIDI writes it down as an editable MIDI file with a score. Our server fetches the soundtrack only so it can be converted; the notes are found in your browser by Spotify's open-source Basic Pitch model. Links need an account and credits. Have the song as a file you own? Upload it instead: that route is free, with no sign-up.
Paste a YouTube link
One video up to 10 minutes. We fetch the audio, you pick the part, and the MIDI is made free in your browser.
1 credit per started minute of video10 credits at most
One credit is held when the fetch starts and the rest is charged once the length is known. Failed fetches are refunded. The same link again within 6 hours costs nothing.
Only use songs you own or have permission to use. We fetch the audio only to make your MIDI and never offer it as a download. Private, age-restricted and region-locked videos are not supported.
Going from a YouTube link to MIDI takes three moves. You paste the address of a single video. Our server fetches its soundtrack through a third-party service and streams it to your tab, where it is drawn as a waveform so you can choose the stretch you want: the chorus, a solo, the piano intro. Then the same in-browser engine as our free audio to MIDI converter takes over, and Basic Pitch writes every note with its pitch, start, length and velocity. You get a piano roll, a score and a .mid file. You take away MIDI, never the audio or the video. Already have the song as a file you own? Upload it instead; nothing else changes.
Paste a LinkSeveral YouTube to MIDI sites stop at a 30 second preview or a single free download. Here the fetch is the only paid step, and everything after it is a full studio.
The fetched song appears as a waveform. Drag the handles around the riff, the chorus or the intro, play the selection, and send just that part to the note model. Shorter parts convert faster.
Fetching a link uses credits, and the converter shows the cost before you start. Converting, editing and every export after that are free, and a fetch that fails gives its credits back.
This is not a YouTube converter. MIDI and the score are what you leave with; the fetched audio is used for the conversion and is never offered to you, or anyone, as a file.
Note detection runs in your own browser with the open-source, polyphonic model from Spotify, so it hears chords as well as single lines.
Six instrument presets, quantize, snap to key, half or double tempo, time signature and note edits with undo, all before the .mid is saved.
Already have the song as a file you own? Upload MP3, WAV, M4A or a video file, or record it with your mic. It converts free and full length on your device, with no sign-up.
From a YT link to MIDI in your DAW, in four steps. Longer videos take a little longer to fetch; a short part converts in seconds.
Copy the address of one video from the Share button or the address bar: a watch link, a youtu.be link or a Shorts link. Paste it into the YouTube to MIDI converter at the top of this page, click Get audio and sign in if asked.
Our server fetches the soundtrack and streams it to your tab, where the YouTube to MIDI converter draws it as a waveform. Keep the tab open while it works.
Drag the handles around the stretch you want, or tap a quick length: whole song, 30 s or 1 min. Preview it, then click Convert to MIDI.
Basic Pitch writes the notes in your browser. Pick the instrument preset, quantize, check tempo and key, then save your YouTube to MIDI file quantized or as played, or the score as MusicXML.
What happens between pasting a link and opening the notes in your DAW.
A whole song is rarely what you need. The fetched audio is drawn as a waveform with two handles: drag them around the bass line or the hook, play the selection to check it, and only that part goes to the note model. A short part converts faster and keeps the piano roll easy to read.
Choose a PartOnce the part is chosen, the YouTube audio to MIDI step runs in the same studio as every upload. Notes stream into the piano roll while the rest is analysed; then come the score view, the presets, quantize, key and tempo fixes, and exports as MIDI, MusicXML, PNG, SVG or a printed PDF. Want another section of the same video? Choose another part without fetching it again. YouTube to MIDI conversion ends with files you can edit, not a locked preview.
Open the StudioYouTube to MIDI here takes watch links, youtu.be links, Shorts and music.youtube.com links to one public or unlisted video, up to 10 minutes long. Playlists and channel pages are refused, so one paste never pulls in a whole list. Private, age-restricted and region-blocked videos cannot be fetched; the converter says why and points you to the upload.
Try a LinkIf you would rather not spend credits, upload a file instead, or record the part yourself. It is the free converter from our homepage: drop a song you own, nothing leaves your device, and the first 10 minutes are converted with every studio feature. Posted the track yourself and kept the master? YouTube MP3 to MIDI is then just this upload, or use MP3 to MIDI and, for a video file, MP4 to MIDI.
Upload a FileWe won't put someone else's video on this page, so this example uses the CC0 walking bass recording built into our converter. A YouTube to MIDI run takes exactly the same road: waveform, chosen part, Basic Pitch, MIDI.
What you are looking at
The clip is 24 seconds of a walking bass line in F, played on guitar by students of ESMUC in Barcelona and released under CC0. With the Bass preset the engine wrote 57 notes, only one of them drawn dashed as uncertain. It read 132 BPM, F major and 4/4, and put bar 1 at 0:00.67. That is about as clean as a YouTube to MIDI file gets: one instrument, one line, no drums.
The link changes nothing about the notes: the result depends on what is in the soundtrack. No percentages until our own tests are published; here is what each kind of video tends to give.
One instrument recorded close and clean gives the best YouTube to MIDI results. Pick the matching preset; piano audio to MIDI has more tips for keys.
Voice and accompaniment arrive together, so the tune comes with chords and extra notes. For a melody alone, sing it yourself with voice to MIDI.
Every part lands in one track with plenty of extra notes. ToMIDI does not separate instruments, so treat the result as a sketch to clean up.
Crowd noise, room echo and a distant phone mic make the notes hard to read. A clean studio recording of the same song does far better.
Two sets of rules apply when you convert YouTube to MIDI, and we stick to the facts. Copyright: a song usually carries rights in the composition and in the recording, and the notes you get from it are still that song. YouTube's terms: the YouTube Terms of Service say content may not be accessed, reproduced or downloaded except as the service expressly allows or with prior written permission from YouTube and, where it applies, the rights holder. So convert only videos you own or have permission to use, such as your own uploads or videos the creator marked with a Creative Commons license. We never provide the audio or the video, only the MIDI and the score made from the part you chose. Whether a particular use is allowed depends on your situation and where you live: this page draws no legal conclusions and is not legal advice.

People who use YouTube to MIDI already have the right to the music. They want its notes back.
Lost the project file but the performance is still on your channel? Run your own upload through YouTube to MIDI and rebuild the part in your DAW.
Turn a lesson you filmed and posted into MIDI and a score you can mark up, then hand students the notes alongside the video.
Got the player's permission, or recorded the cover yourself? Get the notes, slow them down in the piano roll and practise from the score.
Rehearsals and live streams often reach YouTube before anyone writes them down. Get the riff or the melody back as MIDI before it is forgotten.
YouTube lets creators mark videos with a Creative Commons Attribution license, shown in the description. Convert those, credit the creator and build on the notes.
A run-through of your own part, posted for the section, becomes MIDI you can check pitch by pitch and share as a printed page.
What people ask before they turn a song from YouTube into notes.
Paste the video's link into the converter at the top of this page, click Get audio and sign in. When the waveform appears, choose the part you want and convert it; the notes are found in your browser and you can download a .mid. Have the song as a file you own? Upload it instead.
Use the YouTube to MIDI converter above: the link brings in the soundtrack, you choose the part, and Basic Pitch turns it into notes you can edit, quantize and export. For the cleanest MIDI, pick a video where one instrument plays alone, such as a piano cover, and convert only the bars you need.
Free for files, not for links. Fetching a link uses credits, because every fetch has a real processing cost; the converter shows that cost first. To get a YouTube to MIDI file for free, start from a copy of the song you own: upload it here, or use our MP3 to MIDI converter, full length and with no sign-up. Spotify's Basic Pitch demo is another free MIDI converter. YouTube links are not part of it either.
That depends on the music, on what you do with the MIDI and on where you live, and we can't answer it for you; this is not legal advice. Two things are clear. The notes of a song are still that song, so its copyright applies to the MIDI, and YouTube's Terms of Service restrict downloading content without permission. Convert only videos you own or have permission to use.
For links, yes: fetching a video's audio needs a signed-in account and credits, and the converter shows the cost before you start. If a fetch fails, the credits are returned. Uploading a file needs neither.
No. Credits pay for fetching the audio, not for the YouTube to MIDI conversion itself. Once the waveform is there, choose another part and convert it without fetching the video again, and if you paste the same link within 6 hours, you get the earlier fetch back at no new charge.
A link to one public or unlisted video up to 10 minutes long: a watch link, a youtu.be link, a Shorts link or a music.youtube.com link. Playlists and channels are refused. Private, age-restricted and region-blocked videos cannot be fetched.
No. ToMIDI is a YouTube to MIDI converter, not a downloader. The fetched audio is streamed to your tab only so it can be converted, and the files you take away are the MIDI and the score.
As accurate as the soundtrack allows. A solo piano or guitar video gives a usable MIDI; a singer over a backing track or a full band gives a rough sketch with extra notes, because ToMIDI does not separate instruments. We publish no percentages until our own tests are done.
Usually because the soundtrack holds more than one instrument, drums or a lot of reverb. Choose a shorter part where your line is clearest, pick the matching preset, hide the uncertain notes and clean up the rest in the MIDI editor.
Videos up to 10 minutes can be fetched, and you can convert all of it or just a part. A longer video is refused and its credits are returned; for long recordings you own, upload the file, and the first 10 minutes are converted.
MP4 to MIDI reads the soundtrack of an MP4, WEBM or MOV straight from your device, free and with nothing uploaded. Use YouTube to MIDI when all you have is a link.
Yes. Switch the result to the score view, then export MusicXML for MuseScore or Sibelius, PNG or SVG images, or print it to PDF. For more layout control, open the .mid in MIDI to sheet music, or get a playable arrangement with song to piano.
Download the .mid and drag it onto an instrument in FL Studio's Channel Rack, a MIDI track in Ableton Live or the Tracks area in Logic Pro, and accept the tempo import. MIDI carries notes, not sound, so any instrument can play it.
Take your YouTube to MIDI file further: edit the notes, print them, hear them with real instruments or play them in a game.
Paste a link into the YouTube to MIDI converter at the top of this page, choose the part you want and download the notes. No link at hand, or rather not spend credits? Upload a song you own and convert it for free.
