Piano learners
Turn the song you are learning into piano notes and practise it bar by bar. Need it lower or higher? Export MusicXML and transpose sheet music to a key that suits your hands.
To turn a song into piano notes, drop the recording on the song to piano converter below: ToMIDI listens with Spotify's open-source Basic Pitch model and writes the notes it hears onto a grand staff, right hand above and left hand below. It all runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no sign-up. Check the key, tempo and timing, then print the score or download MIDI and MusicXML. A solo piano recording gives the cleanest sheet music.

Working out a song on the piano by ear means hundreds of replays: find the melody, guess the octave, untangle the chords, then place each note in the bar. A song to piano converter does that first pass for you, so practice time goes into playing instead of searching.
What matters when you turn a song into piano notes you want to read and play, not just a file.
The Piano preset lays the notes out on treble and bass staves and sorts each one into the right or left hand around middle C, so the page reads like piano music instead of one crowded line.
Play the detected notes, the original recording or a mix of both. When something sounds off you hear exactly where, and you can fix it before you print.
The converter suggests a key, a tempo and a time signature. Change any of them, halve or double the tempo, tap the beat yourself, and snap the rhythm to a 1/8, 1/16 or 1/32 grid.
Song to piano conversion happens inside your browser tab. The file is never uploaded, so there is no queue and no server to wait for.
No account, no watermark and no 30 second preview. Files up to 300 MB open, and the first 10 minutes of each one are transcribed.
Print the score or save it as a PDF from the print dialog, export PNG or SVG, download MusicXML for MuseScore, or take the MIDI file into a DAW or the MIDI editor.
From the first drop to a printed page takes a minute or two. MP3 to piano notes works exactly like WAV, and a short clip converts in seconds once the model has loaded.
Drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG or AAC file on the converter above, use the soundtrack of an MP4 or WEBM video, or record up to a minute from your microphone.
Basic Pitch finds each note's pitch, start and length. The page opens on the score view with the Piano preset on, so the notes land on a grand staff straight away.
Press play and compare the notes with the original. Drop the dashed uncertain notes, snap stray notes into the key and quantize the timing until the bars look right.
Print the sheet music or save it as a PDF, export PNG, SVG or MusicXML, or download a .mid file, quantized or as played.
What the song to piano view gives you when you sit down at the keys.
Notes well above middle C go to the right hand, lower ones to the left, and notes near the middle follow the hand that was already playing, so a run stays on one staff. Bar lines follow the time signature and the key signature comes from the detected key, so accidentals only appear where the song really leaves the scale.
See Your Song as a ScoreOne control moves between the original song, the detected notes and a mix of both. Listen to them together and wrong notes jump out at once; click any note to hear it on its own. It is the quickest way to check a piano to notes conversion before you trust the page.
Compare with the OriginalHuman playing never sits exactly on a grid, so raw notes can look busy on paper. Quantize to 1/8, 1/16 or 1/32, switch between As played and Quantized to hear the difference, fix a tempo that came out at half or double speed, and pull stray notes back into the key with one switch.
Clean Up a ScoreSongwriters use it the other way round: hum or sing a hook into the microphone and it comes back as piano notes you can build chords under. It will not compose for you like an AI piano song maker, but as a piano song creator's notebook it catches the idea before it fades. The voice to MIDI page has tips for clean takes.
Record a MelodyReal output, not a mock-up: the Bach sample from the converter above, played by Kimiko Ishizaka and released into the public domain. Switch views to see the same notes as a piano roll and as a score.

What you are looking at
Basic Pitch found 145 notes in the 26 second clip, read the tempo as about 111 BPM and the key as C major. The broken chords come through cleanly, the held bass notes ring on, and a few short ghost notes from the sustain are marked as uncertain so you can drop them with one switch. Open the sample in the converter to play or print it.
A song to piano converter writes down the notes it hears; it does not decide what a pianist should play. That matters most with a full mix: voice, guitar, bass and drums all land in one score, the page fills with extra notes, and nothing gets simplified into a beginner version. For the cleanest song into piano notes, start from a solo piano recording or a song where one instrument carries the tune.
Small choices before and after the conversion make a big difference on paper.
One piano, recorded close with little reverb, gives the clearest song to piano score. Concert halls and heavy pedal add ghost notes.
Learning the verse? A clip of just that verse is quicker to check and gives a shorter score to print.
If the bars look twice as busy as they should, the tempo was read at half speed. One click on 2× or ½× fixes it, or tap the beat yourself.
Dashed notes are the ones the model doubts. Hide them all with one switch and listen again; most of the clutter goes with them.
How good the sheet music looks depends on the recording far more than on any setting. No percentages until we have measured them; this is what each source usually gives, whether you convert solo piano to notes or feed a full band song to piano.
| What you get | Best next step | |
|---|---|---|
| Solo piano | A readable grand staff; check fast runs and chords held with the pedal | Drop uncertain notes, quantize to 1/16, then print |
| Piano and voice | The piano part and the sung melody together in one score | Delete the vocal line, or keep it as the right hand |
| Hummed or sung melody | One clean line of notes for the right hand | Hum one note at a time in a quiet room |
| Guitar, violin or flute | The notes laid out for piano; strummed chords come out approximate | For tabs, use the guitar tab generator |
| Full band mix | A rough sketch with extra notes from every instrument | Pick a version where the piano or melody is loud and clear |
| Drums | Not supported: drum hits come out as random notes | Convert the pitched parts only |
Learners, teachers and songwriters all start from a recording and want to turn that song into piano notes they can play from.

Drop the song on the converter at the top of this page, or record it. ToMIDI detects the notes in your browser and shows them on a grand staff within seconds. Play the result against the original, tidy the timing and key, then print the score or download MIDI or MusicXML. Song to piano conversion is free and needs no account.
Yes, this one: a song to piano sheet converter that runs in your browser, with no sign-up, no watermark and no 30 second preview. Files up to 300 MB open, the first 10 minutes are transcribed, and every song to piano export is full length.
Not in one step. AI transcription writes down the notes in a recording; arranging means choosing which of them a pianist should play and simplifying the rhythm for both hands. ToMIDI turns a clear song into piano notes and a score to edit. From a full band song, expect a sketch to simplify by hand, not a finished easy version.
It converts whatever you give it, but a full mix gives a rough song to piano result: every instrument lands in the same score and drums add stray notes. It does not separate vocals or instruments, so choose a recording where the piano or the melody is clearly in front.
Solo piano, recorded close with little reverb and light pedal, turns a song into piano notes most cleanly. One clear melody instrument or a hummed tune also works well, and a WAV, FLAC or high bitrate MP3 beats a phone recording of a speaker.
Yes. In the score view choose the print option, then pick Save as PDF in your browser's print dialog. You can also export the score as a PNG image or an SVG file, or download MusicXML to open it in MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale or Dorico.
By register, with a little memory: notes well above middle C go to the right hand, notes well below it to the left, and notes near middle C stay with the hand that was playing nearby so runs hold together. If a passage lands on the wrong staff, open the MusicXML in a notation app such as MuseScore and move it there.
Yes. Record yourself or upload a recording and it converts piano to notes exactly as you played them, a quick way to keep an improvisation. For a .mid file aimed at a DAW rather than a score, see piano audio to MIDI.
Usually. The converter suggests a key, a tempo and a time signature (on its own it picks between 4/4 and 3/4) and writes them into the score and the .mid. The tempo sometimes comes out at half or double speed, which ½× and 2× fix, or you can tap the beat. For a quick answer without converting, try the key finder or the BPM finder.
No. The score shows notes, rests, bar lines, clefs and the key and time signature. Chord symbols, lyrics, fingering, pedal marks and dynamics are not added; export MusicXML if you want to add them in a notation app.
Not in the converter: playback runs at the song's own speed. Practise slowly from the printed score, or change the speed of the recording itself with the BPM changer.
MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and AAC, plus the soundtrack of MP4 and WEBM video; most audio your browser can play will open, so audio to piano notes works from nearly any file. You can also record from the microphone, up to a minute per take.
No. Decoding, note detection and export all run on your device. The page downloads the note model, about 1 MB, the first time; after that, turning music into piano notes happens locally.
Song to piano is the same idea set up for piano: the Piano preset, a grand staff and a hand split from the start. For other instruments and layouts see audio to sheet music, and to engrave a MIDI file you already have, use MIDI to sheet music. Coming from desktop software? Our AnthemScore alternative page compares the two.
Basic Pitch, an open-source model from Spotify's Audio Intelligence Lab that hears several notes at once. It is the engine behind our free audio to MIDI converter too; this page adds the piano layout. The Basic Pitch page explains what ToMIDI adds on top of the model.
