Catch a chorus idea the moment it arrives, then build the arrangement around the MIDI instead of a scratch vocal.
ToMIDI is a free voice to MIDI converter that works right in your browser. Hum, sing or whistle a tune and Spotify's open-source Basic Pitch model writes it down as MIDI notes, while a live pitch line shows exactly what you are singing. No install, no sign-up, and your voice never leaves your device.
Tap to record
Hum, sing, whistle or play one note at a time, up to 60 seconds. The conversion starts when you stop.
Each result is this engine's actual output, not a mock-up.
Only convert audio you have the right to use. Your file stays on this device.
Voice to MIDI conversion listens to one sung line and writes down every note: its pitch, where it starts and how long you held it. You get a .mid file, not a recording, so it turns a voice to music notes you can edit, play on any instrument, move to a new key or print as a score. Press Record above and the Voice preset is already chosen: it follows one note at a time, ignores breaths and smooths the small wobbles every voice has. Have a voice memo instead? Drop the file in and the same voice to MIDI engine reads it. For instruments, start from the free audio to MIDI converter.
Record a Melody NowSix reasons singers, songwriters and producers turn vocals to MIDI here instead of clicking notes in one at a time.
While you record, an orange line plots your pitch over time, with the closest note name and a dial that leans flat or sharp. Drift shows up before the MIDI exists.
The Voice preset tracks a single line from E2 to C6, catches soft starts and folds the quick semitone wobbles of vibrato into the note you meant to sing.
Recording, voice to MIDI detection and export all happen in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so an unreleased melody stays yours.
Record up to 60 seconds per take, or upload a voice memo of up to 300 MB with the first 10 minutes analysed. The whole .mid is yours, with no watermark.
Snap to key, quantize, halve or double the tempo, drop uncertain notes and edit single notes with undo. Every change applies instantly.
Download a .mid quantized or as sung, MusicXML for notation apps, a PNG or SVG of the score, or print it and save a PDF.
From the first hum to a file in your DAW takes about a minute. Here is the whole path.
Press Record and allow the microphone when the browser asks. Turn on the 3-second count-in if you want a moment to breathe. Each take runs up to 60 seconds, and the level meter warns you when you are too quiet.
Hum notes one at a time, or sing them on a syllable. The live pitch line and the nearest note show what the microphone hears, so you can stop and try again if a phrase goes wrong.
Press Stop and the voice to MIDI conversion starts by itself. Basic Pitch runs in your browser and the notes land in a piano roll and a score, with the detected tempo, key and time signature.
Snap stray notes to the key, quantize the rhythm if you want it tight, then download the MIDI file or export the score.
Three things happen between your voice and the download. Each one is built around how people actually sing.
The recorder doubles as a singing notes detector. While the take runs, an orange pitch line tracks your voice, the nearest note shows in large letters, and a cents dial swings left when you are flat and right when you are sharp. Singers use it to check intonation; songwriters use it to make sure the hook in their head is the one going into the microphone. Want that readout on its own, with no recording? Try the pitch detector.
Start RecordingA voice glides between notes and wavers on long ones, and a plain detector writes those wobbles down as extra short notes. For vocal to MIDI, the Voice preset keeps one note at a time, folds short semitone blips into the note beside them, and rejoins a held note that a consonant broke in two. In our own synthetic test, a 20-note melody sung with vibrato came back with all 20 notes. Switch presets whenever you like: the result updates instantly, without running the model again.
Try the Voice PresetHummed notes often land between two pitches. Turn on Snap to key and stray notes move into the detected key, while notes you edited by hand stay where you put them. Download a .mid quantized or as sung, with tempo, key and time signature written in and a Voice Oohs sound assigned, or export MusicXML, PNG and SVG. Need a lead sheet with more layout options? Open the file in MIDI to sheet music.
Convert Your VoiceThis is the hummed melody sample from the converter above: 20 seconds of humming and the 40 notes ToMIDI found in it. Press play, then switch between the pitch line and the notes.

What you are looking at
Notes, timing and the one dashed uncertain note are the engine's actual voice to MIDI output with the Voice preset; the pitch line is drawn from those notes to show what the recorder displays. The converter read this hum at 159.7 BPM in F sharp major. If a tempo feels twice too fast, the ½× button fixes it in one click.
A single voice is the friendliest source there is: one pitch at a time, no chords to untangle. A clear hum recorded close to the microphone usually converts well with vocal to MIDI. We quote no accuracy percentages until we have measured real voices, so here is what to watch for. Play the MIDI against your take with the Mix control and fix the few notes that need it.
How you record matters more than any setting. Four habits that give you fewer notes to fix.
A steady hum, or "da" and "la" on every note, gives each note a clear start. Real lyrics work too, but breathy words can blur where one note ends and the next begins.
Turn on the 3-second count-in. For steady timing, play a metronome through headphones so the click stays out of the take.
Fans, TV and room echo all end up in the take. Sit about a hand's width from the microphone and watch the level meter until it stops saying Too quiet.
Two notes on the same pitch with no break between them can join into one long note in the voice to MIDI result. A tiny pause or a fresh consonant keeps them apart.
Desktop software can turn a voice into MIDI too. Here is how a free voice to MIDI converter in the browser compares with the options most people already know, checked on each vendor's site in November 2026.

Anyone with a tune in their head who wants to turn vocals into notes without clicking them in one by one.
Catch a chorus idea the moment it arrives, then build the arrangement around the MIDI instead of a scratch vocal.
Voice a bass part or a lead line and send the MIDI to any synth. It beats drawing notes with a mouse and keeps the phrasing you sang.
Practise a tricky interval while the cents dial shows how close you are, then move the melody to a comfortable key with transpose sheet music.
Sing each part of an arrangement separately, turn the vocals to MIDI for practice tracks and print the vocal music notes for every section.
Sight-singing homework becomes checkable: sing the exercise, view it on a staff and compare it bar by bar with the page. Quick voice to sheet music for practice.
Whistle a riff on a walk, record it in your phone's browser and turn it into a MIDI loop when you get home.
Real questions people ask about turning a voice into notes, answered plainly, limits included.
Yes. You can use voice to MIDI free with no sign-up: record up to 60 seconds at a time, or upload a recording of up to 300 MB, and download the whole MIDI file. There is no watermark and no preview limit.
The Record tab at the top of this page is already open: give the browser access to your microphone and hum the tune with a clear start on each note. Stopping the take starts the voice to MIDI conversion, and the notes appear in a piano roll, ready to check, fix and download as a .mid. Humming to MIDI works best in a quiet room.
For most people a browser tool is enough: ToMIDI needs no install and adds a live pitch line, a Voice preset and score export to Basic Pitch. If you already own Ableton Live Standard or Suite, its Convert Melody command works inside your set, and Melodyne is the pick when you also want to edit the recording itself. The best choice depends on whether you need notes, notation or audio editing.
While you record, yes: the pitch line, the nearest note and the cents dial update live. The MIDI notes themselves are made when you stop, because the model listens to the whole take at once.
For one clear voice, usually good. Steady hums and syllables like "da" convert most cleanly; slides, heavy vibrato and fast lyrics need a quick check, and chords or harmonies cannot be captured. We will publish measured results by source once testing is done, and quote no percentages until then.
Only when the voice is on its own. In a full mix the detector hears every instrument, so the notes come out tangled. Start from an a cappella or an isolated vocal track, then convert vocals to MIDI with the Voice preset.
Humming is the safest choice, with syllables such as "da" or "la" a close second, because each note then begins cleanly and holds steady. Words work, though soft consonants can smear two notes together. A whistle is pure but often very high: the Voice preset ends at C6, so pick Solo melody if top notes vanish.
Dashed notes are the ones the model was unsure about, often a breath, a slide or a scoop. Keep them, delete them one by one, or turn off Show uncertain notes to leave them all out of the result and the export.
Turn on Snap to key and stray notes move into the detected key, while your hand edits stay put. Not sure the key is right? Check it with the key finder. For a single wrong note, click it and move it a semitone or an octave, with undo if you change your mind.
Yes. Switch the voice to MIDI result to the score view to see the melody on a staff, then export MusicXML for MuseScore, Sibelius or Dorico, save the score as PNG or SVG, or print it and choose Save as PDF. Quantize first so the rhythm reads cleanly.
No. Your take is decoded and converted by code running in this tab, and the audio is never sent to us. The only download is the note model itself, about 1 MB, the first time you convert.
Yes. The recorder works in up-to-date mobile and desktop browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, as long as the page is opened over https. Blocked microphone? Open the site settings from the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then press Try again.
ToMIDI is a web page rather than a plugin, but the result is a standard .mid file that drops into FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubase or Reaper. Drag it onto an instrument track and set the project tempo to the detected BPM so the notes line up.
The recorder stops at 60 seconds per take, which suits a hook or a verse. For longer material, record a voice memo with your phone or DAW and upload it: files up to 300 MB work, and the first 10 minutes are analysed.
Yes, that is what MIDI is for. The file holds notes, not sound, so your DAW can play the hummed tune on piano, strings, brass or a synth. To hear it as an audio file without a DAW, use MIDI to MP3.
Yes. The same converter handles instruments once you switch the preset, and the piano audio to MIDI and guitar to MIDI pages open with the right preset and instrument tips.

Press Record, sing the melody in your head, and download the vocal to MIDI converter result when it is done. Nothing to install, nothing uploaded: the quickest way to turn your voice into MIDI.
